Mayday Parade
1st April 2010
The Garage, Glasgow

"Let's write a song that we can sing to,
And you can lead the choir,
And put the hook where it hurts most."

Two long years after Mayday Parade first graced our shores as part of the Give It A Name Introducing Tour '08, they were finally back on British soil, this time supporting Madina Lake on their headline tour.

Given the size of the crowd gathered in The Garage, Glasgow this evening, and the volume of their collective cheer as the band took to the stage to tune up, anyone would have been forgiven for thinking Mayday Parade were in fact tonight's headlines. Launching straight into Jersey, from their 2007 release A Lesson In Romantics, the band proceeded to deliver a fast paced and energetic set. For many of the fans gathered tonight, this was their first chance to see their favourite Mayday Parade songs in a live setting and the tunes aired tonight seemed to take on a whole new level when played out on stage. The honesty and passion that runs through Mayday's lyrics became transposed into tight musicianship and an electricity that seemed to enchanted the entire room. Kids In Love, from sophomore release Anywhere But Here sounded huge, as did the album's title track. A trip down memory lane came in the form of Three Cheers For Five Years, a poignant and emotionally charged track from the band's debut EP.

Ending on crowd pleaser Jamie All Over, Mayday Parade left the stage safe in the knowledge that their UK fans certainly hadn't forgotten about them. Let's just hope that another two year wait doesn't lie between now and this brilliant band's return.
